In the time following giving birth or after years of already being a mother, it is very easy to gain fat. Being busy and never quite having enough time for yourself, makes creating a bit of a mom pooch, something that can creep right up on you. How does one get rid of this layer of fat from the midsection to the pelvic area? Perhaps more importantly, how long will it take to get rid of this mommy pooch? In this post, let’s break down a time frame, and what it will take to simply lose the flab.
How Long Does it Take to Lose Mom Pooch Fat?
On a fat loss plan, one can expect the average weight lost to be around 1-3 lbs per week, over the entirety of the process.
However, for short periods of time, this amount may be accelerated temporarily. It will revert back to the mean, though.
The amount of time it will take, depends on how much excess body fat you have, not just around the pooch area but the body in totality.
Fat loss, doesn’t just occur in one place, and you cannot spot reduce by doing exercises for that specific area. Fat will come off gradually, for the body as a whole, and some areas may take longer than others.
For women, the hip and butt fat, usually takes the longest. Belly fat and saddle bags, for men. So, the pooch may get reduced fairly quickly in the process, with the remains of it coming off slowly.
Let’s say for example, you have 20lbs to lose. It should take around 10 weeks. Personally, I’ve done it in around six weeks before, but that was a pretty difficult pace that I wouldn’t recommend.
For most, it will take somewhere in the 8-12 week range to lose 20 lbs. Also, keep in mind, the last 10 lbs is the hardest, as the pace of loss does slow down.
If you have large amounts of fat to lose, please do not think that this is going to be a super fast process. It won’t. Plan on losing 2 lbs per week on average and set that as your goal.
Yes, it very well may be faster than that, but use that as a target for planning purposes. Heck, it might be slower than that.
Don’t fall into the mindset, that something has to get done quickly. Time is going to pass anyway, even six months isn’t a long time, in the grand scheme of things. That was just, summer vacation for me, six months ago…and it seems like it was only weeks that passed.
Take your time, make it easier to change bad habits, and slowly build a plan that gets results.
Also, if you’re coming right off of giving birth, go slower and get clearance from doctors before starting exercising.
How to Lose the Fat?
Fat loss is mainly about diet. Much more than exercise, in fact. The exercise helps speed the process along and is great for health, but without the right diet, fat loss will not occur.
A lot of people hear the word ‘diet’ and immediately start thinking of extreme or off the wall eating plans.
However, in this context, I simply mean the foods that one consumes each day. Not some super restrictive or miserable experience.
One needs to first get an idea of their maintenance calories before the fat loss journey begins. These are the total number of calories you need to stay at your current weight.
Once you have the maintenance calorie number, you will reduce the number of calories you intake each day to lose fat.
The easiest way to do this is to download a fitness app, which will give you an estimate of how many calories you’ll need, to lose 1-3 lbs per week. You simply type in some information and track the foods you eat each day.
Workouts for Mom Pooch Fat Loss
Now, I want to be clear, that you can lose fat doing any type of cardio and/or lifting weights, playing sports, etc. So long as your calories are in order, the flab on the love handles, will burn off.
As such, if you want to just walk or peddle a stationary bike or swim or whatever else…you can and you’ll drop weight.
However, if we’re talking about the best or more accurately, most effective cardio workout; we will have to take a different approach.
When I want to lose fat, there’s only one cardio program that I use. Yes, I might just walk on certain days, when I feel that I need a rest. BUT, my program of choice is Visual Impact Cardio.
Visual Impact is a fat loss protocol designed by trainer, Rusty Moore. It is delivered to one’s email, as an ebook, which let’s you get started immediately.
How does it work? Well, there are three 8 week levels, from Beginner to Advanced. Though, you won’t necessarily need to go through all of the levels to lose the fat.
For me, I can often get lean enough, within a single 8 week program. It might take a few weeks longer, depending on how lazy I’ve been, with diet.
For example, I’ll do the entire Intermediate program and then, do a few weeks of the Advanced if necessary. The Advanced program is designed to be done for a short-time only…it’s really intense and exhausting.
Now, you don’t need to do this program to lose fat, but it is an amazing tool that I use because it has gotten the job done…time and time again. Plus, if you’re someone who just want a plan laid out exactly for you, Visual Impact Cardio will have you ready to start immediately.
The current price is $37, it is emailed to you, and there’s a 60 Day Money Back Guarantee. So, you can go ahead and try it out, and see the effectiveness for yourself. Click the image below, for a full explanation from trainer Rusty Moore, about his program:
